HI - I would appreciate information on Martha Hunt Pace Family and Gideon Pace born NC. His father was William Pace. He married Marhta Hunt about 1811 probably in Davidson Co TN. It is thought that Gideon Pace brother John also married a Hunt, possibly a sister of Martha Hunt Pace.

Gideon and Martha Pace had 8 Children that were orphaned in Texas about Sept 1829 when Gideon Pace died on the Clipper "Eclipse" owned by William Austin, brother of Stephen Austin. William Austin also died on the same business trip from New Orleans back to Texas. This Trip took place when the Eclipse left Texas in July 1829. William Austin caught Yellow Fever dying in New Orleans in late August 1829. The Ship departed New Orleans in early September 1829 for TX. Coincidental with the death of William Austin and Gideon Pace, it is known that the Schooner Eclipse was lost at sea in late 1829 but no specific date or documentation on the loss of the Schooner Eclipse is available after OCT. 1829

An advertisement appeared in the Texas Gazette Oct31 1829 that stated land of Gideon Pace for sale on the Brazio

Martha Hunt Pace was probably deceased by the time Gideon died in Sept 1829

Their Oldest son James Robert Pace, born 1814 in TN wrote a letter that is in the Stephen Austin Land Records Dated July 1830. This letter request that the Heirs of Gideon Pace, his 8 orphaned children be allowed entry to the Austin Colony and claim what is due them according the laws of the Colony... About 1838 they were given land based on proof they provided to Texas land commissioners that their father , Gideon Pace, settled in Texas prior to 1829.
