Bonnie, I live in Vermont but was born and raised in MA in New Ashford. I am not very good at researching as I unfortunately do not have enough hours in my day to spend the time I really would like to - my search for Asa Samuel (Sampson) Packard is at a complete standstill - I have researched the phone directories for New York and have contacted all Packards listed - hoping to find some heirs to Asa possibly from his second marriage - no heirs. Since my Mom is still alive (will be 99 in February) I know this is something that has been bothering her for a long time not knowing where her father was. My search began trying to find Asa (my grandfather)for her and only extended to Asa's siblings and parents so I really appreciated the information you have given to me, this information I had not even started looking for and I'm not sure I would know where to begin - the family bible only lists Robert & Emily and their children. I did contact the Erving town clerk but that office is only open from 6-8 p.m. on Monday evenings - the only info I got from him was that Robert moved to North Adams, MA at age 14 - I probably did not know the right questions to ask, and I'm not sure the public would be able to dig through their records. So, I really do appreciate having your information If you have some suggestions as to how I may help in finding Sampson's parents I would be happy to help. I would be very interested in finding out where the Packard's originated - some say England and others say France. My genealogy starts with Robert & Emily and extends (not very well in places) to the current generation of my grandchildren). I have not been too successful with some of Clara's children to their grandchildren. I'm sure it probably is because years ago Clara and my Mom had a misunderstanding and Clara can't seem to come to terms with it which is very unfortunate since they are the only two left in the Asa and Ellen family - very sad.

Thanks for all the info and help you've given and if I find anything new I will be sure and pass it on to you.

Have a great time in Florida and enjoy the sunshine - it sure has been a bitter winter here and I envy you.
Hope to converse with you again soon. Martha
