Hi John,
My name is Chris Packer and I grew up in Groombridge, Kent, England, although I was not born there. I am descended from one of the Packer families of Barbados.
The Packer's of Groombridge built the manor house in the village; Groombridge Place. There is a timeline on the Groombridge Place website that can tell you a bit more:

From the best of my knowledge in the 70 odd years that the Packers owned Groombrdige Place there were two different Philip Packers. Unfortunately the website seems to indicate that they both died in Groombridge and neither were married to the lady you mentioned. I believe though that the last Philip had a brother John who emigrated to Barbados. However I do not believe my family is related.
