Pavicic in Illinois

My ggrandfather (Peter) was a Pavesich or Pavesick which I believe would also be pronounced Pavicic so perhaps there is a connection. My understanding is that he was Croatian and living in Austria before he emigrated to USA. It has been said he worked as a cook for the King of Austria on the King's ship. Does this sound familiar to anyone?
