I read these interesting queries and thought I'd ask: How did Payette, Idaho get it's name. I know there was an explorer named Payette in that area. What was his full name, why was the area named after him? Was he married, have children, etc. Do you know where he came from originally? He must have been something special, since there is also a national forest and lake named after him. It could be he came from some branch of our family so am interested in Payette, Idaho.
