Hi, Darlene. I'll respond for Jim, I just noticed his posting from last year, he must not have checked back.
We have a good track for our line back to Louis, on Drummond Island. We (and others) have not been able to connect him to earlier Payettes, of whom there are a lot!
There seem to be a few possibilities - we are pretty sure Louis was born on Drummond Island in or around 1817(ish). So his parents were there around then. Most of the Drummond Islanders came from Michilimackinac in about 1815 when the British relocated from Mackinac to Drummond, which was subsequently claimed by the US, causing another relocation to Penetanguishene. Our line followed that migration route.
So, Louis' parents could have come to Drummond Island from Mackinac, or from elsewhere. He married a Catherine Laverdure, who was probably Métis or First Nations, probably when they arrived in Penetanguishene.
SO, what we really need is a way to link Louis to his family. If you have anything that would speak to that, we'd be grateful.
Thanks. - Ron
