Have just had a look for these people on the online IGI. There was no information on Piddletrenthide on the IGI last time I looked - there has been some serious updating!

Interesting that the IGI claims that Thomas Pain married Sarah Hayward in both Piddletrenthide and Thornford on the same date... As the Piddletrenthide record is patron submitted and the Thornford record part of their extraction programme, the Piddletrenthide record can be discounted though.

I have looked for Thomas Pain/Payne on the 1851 Somerset census (I have this on cd) but cannot find him.

There are no Paynes in Thornford in 1851.

There is one family of Paynes in Ilchester in 1851:
Free Street
PAYNE Henry 39 Butcher Ilchester, Som.
Susan 30 Chilthorne, Som.
Elizabeth 9 Scholar Ilchester, Som.
Robert 6 Scholar Ilchester, Som.
Sarah Jane 4 Scholar Ilchester, Som.
Julia Niece 14 Assistant Ilchester, Som.

Could this be another brother to Elizabeth?
