Just a few thoughts on your query regarding Matthew Peatross and his antecedants. We may accept the fact that John Pedro, (Pedroes, Petro, Patris) was the probable father of our Matthew. As to whether this John Pedro was the same John Pedro who was of African descent, I have certain reservations - there were various laws during that period governing the intermingling of the races, thereby making it difficult for Matthew, of the black race, to marry Elizabeth Mayo, of the white race, in the Anglican Church. See Henings Statutes for all the laws regarding that matter. Furthermore, there does not appear to be any reference to any member of the family being listed as a mulatto.
Our John Pedro of Rappahannock was closely associated with Evans Dane and with Bertram Obert, who moved back and forth to Maryland. The John Pedro who was executed in Maryland in a Puritan uprising in 1655 was identified as being a German. I wonder if he could have been the father of John Pedro of Rappahannock/Middlesex. I would be interested in hearing more thoughts on this matter.
