I was wandering if anyone had any information as to the relation of Henry Penick located in Roane County TN in the 1830 Census. He appears in the Hamilton County (Chattanooga)tax list in 1837. Then he apprears in the Hamilton County Census of 1860 as age 60. His name appears in that census as Henry Penik. I believe without proof that he had a son born in 1836 named John who also showed up in the 1860 Hamilton County Census spelled John Penik age 24 who in Feb 27 1862 signed up with the 5th Tennessee Infantry Company G. USA. He was aged 26 and a farmer in Hamilton County TN. Here John's name is spelled Penix. John later was captured in Loudon County TN and brought to Andersonville Prison where he died on May 16th, 1864 of fever intermitant whatever that means. His son James H. Penix and daughter Sarah C. Penix was orphaned and applied for pension with a Mr. Hood in Roane County TN in 1878. James H. Penix later had a son in 1890 with Mary Lee Liles John Marshall Penix my great grandfather. James H. Penix died when my great grandfather was only 9 months old by getting kicked in the head by a cow. So you can see two generations of Penix men died young without passing family info on to the next generation. Please email me at jpenix@orionbldg.com if you can help.....Thanks!
