Are you saying she was born in KY? There's a Malinda Philps (census takers sometimes misspelled surnames), age 2 (so born around 1868), born in KY, living in Simpson Co., KY in the 1870 census, with parents William A. and Cerenia A., who were also both born in KY.

I don't know if that's her, but it might be worth checking into if you have nothing else to go on.
