Thank you Steven.

I had ruled out Levisa as the "Widow Long" because her husband was alive and remarried. The term "Grass Widow" had completely slipped my mind.

My mother was the daughter of Hassie Elizabeth (Lizzie) Long, daughter of Henry & Margaret Fortner, son of Jefferson & Elizabeth Woodie, son of John Jr./Jonathan & Susanna Stamper, son of John Sr. & Susanna Vannoy. Although, some of the Vannoy camp disputes that any of Susannah's great-grandchildren ended up in Tennessee.

Meshack is most interesting. What a long and eventful life he lived. Do you have any idea why these folks left NC? I have thought it could have been because the frontier was opening up at the end of the Black Hawk War(s) but I don't KNOW a thing. I really appreciate the relationships and dates you have shared with me.

I would love to see any pictures you are willing to share. My email is
katynana2@yahoo.com

I have a picture of Henry and one of Jefferson as well as a picture of Henry's home near Sneedville, TN. If you want a copy, I can email them.

Katy
