A "P.S." to my previous post: I wouldn't get too hung up on the one-P versus two-P spellings of Phips or Phipps. I've found countless situations where the same individual might be referred to in records one time as Phips, another time as Phipps, perhaps another time as Fipps or even Fips.

Also, occasionally a Phipps will show up in the records as "Philps," "Phillips," "Phyps," or anything else that someone's creativity could devise.
