Do you have them in the 1860 census in Speedwell Twp., St. Clair Co., MO? A family that appears to be them is listed there as Able Friend, 57, b. KY; Nancy, 32, b. MO; several children including Sarah E., age 12, b. MO (listed simply as Sarah E.)

I couldn't find them in the 1850 census in Schuyler Co., MO. You didn't mean Schuyler Co., IL, did you? There was an Abel Friend who served as a private in the Black Hawk War in the second company formed from what was then Schuyler Co., IL (later Brown Co.) In the first company was a private Stephen Combs.

Schuyler Co., IL is next to McDonough Co. A Primitive Baptist church called Concord Baptist Church was organized in 1841 in McDonough Co., IL at the home of "Brother Abel Friend." Abel Friend came to Lamoine Township, McDonough Co., IL in 1832, where his wife died. His father came at the same time. There were also Combs individuals in that county. Could this possibly be the same Abel Friend? Could he have remarried to Nancy Combs?
