I don't know whether this is correct, and maybe you've already seen this, but a pdf file at http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/h/a/s/Janet-L-Hastie-CA/PDFGENE4.pdf lists the parents of Solomon Phipps as John Phipps and Elizabeth Neighbour.

Like I said, I don't know if it's correct. One thing that immediately looks strange is that the children of this couple are listed as having been born in a variety of locales. three in Worcestershire, one in Abingdon, Berkshire (Abingdon is actually in Oxfordshire), and another in Warsickshire.

Another web page (http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=AHN&db=geolarson2&id=I113090) refers to Solomon as being a child of John Phipps and Elizabeth Neighbour and makes the further claim that he was born in Abingdon, Berkshire, England. Again, Abingdon is actually in Oxfordshire. Abingdon, Oxfordshire does, however, appear to be associated with the Phipps family of Reading, Berkshire.

When Joseph Phipps (born 1640 Reading, Berkshire, England came to PA, he settled in the Philadelphia area. He is said to have been responsible for naming Abingdon, PA, near Philadelphia, after Abingdon, Oxfordshire, which one source refers to as a "favorite country seat" of his, near Oxford. (Abingdon, Oxfordshire isn't that far from Reading, Berkshire.)

(I've seen where Joseph Phipps b. 1640 has also been said to have been born in "Abingdon, Berkshire.")

I did go through the Google Books last night that I had mentioned, and I doubt that any of them would be of help.
