I have been working on my family name for some time. I am only back as far as Jeremiah Poile 1796. My branch comes from Wittersham Kent England area and my grandfather came to Canada in 1903 as part of the Barr Colony. The name comes from France. There was at one time a district in France called Poile, hence many un connected familys have the name. I am sure the name the Poiles came to England as De Le Poile. They were Huguonts The name De Le Poile appears on the door of The French Chapel in Canterbury Cathedral as supporters in its construction.
