Atkinson (Adkinson) Pooser was born about 1813 in Orangeburg Co., SC. In 1850 he was a millwright living in Orangeburg Co. where he was born. He married Sarah McCauley about 1832/1833 in SC. Subsequently he moved to Florida sometime between 1850 and 1860, where he is listed in the Florida Census in Newmansville, FL. The couple had 8 children. Who were Atkinson's parents? Was his mother an Atkinson? Atkinson's son, James McCauley Pooser, a merchant, was living in FL with his wife, Mary, in 1860. He enlisted in a FL unit CSA, and died of disease in Richmond, VA in September 1864. What happened to Mary Pooser (maiden name unknown), his wife? Their son, James Thomas Pooser, indicated in documents that he was born in 1866/1867 in Orangeburg. Is it possible that the son was born in 1865 to his posthumous father? The dates don't jibe for the death and subsequent birth. Any help given would be very much appreciated.
