Hello. One set of my great-great-grandparents was Evan and Elizabeth CORKILL. Evan was born on the Isle of Man in 1827 to a large CORKILL family there. He was a Mariner. I thought that Evan and Elizabeth lived in Liverpool, England, in the 1860's and 1870's, but I didn't know when and where they married.

Yesterday, I found out that Evan CORKILL got married in the 4th Quarter of 1852 in Liverpool, England. But, then I found out that many couples from the IOM went over to Liverpool to get married. But, they did come over at some point, because their daughter, Mary Elizabeth, was born in Liverpool in 1860.

Early this morning, someone told me that the possible wife for Evan CORKILL was .. Elizabeth QUAYLE. If Evan was born in 1827, then Elizabeth would have been born anywhere around 1830. A little investigating showed that QUAYLE families lived both in Liverpool and the Isle of Man in the 1800's, and might have moved back and forth. So, I don't know whether Elizabeth came from Liverpool or the Isle of Man.

In 1873, Mrs. Elizabeth CORKILL died in West Derby (England). And, the same year, five of their children went to live in the Liverpool Sheltering Homes. In 1874, the children (ages 14 to 3) were sent to Canada. In 1876, Evan remarried an Elizabeth UPTON who was born in Wales. They seem to have lived in West Derby.

Also, just yesterday, I found out where one of the CORKILL daughters was living in a 1910 USA Census. On the form she mentioned that one of her parents was born in Wales. After 3 years, this is the first time I have seen this mentioned. But, it does leave open the possibility that the first Mrs. Elizabeth CORKILL also was born in Wales. (Elizabeth QUAYLE)

The CORKILL children and four LEWIS children were all shipped to Canada in 1874, and all went to live in different homes in Nova Scotia. ("British Home Children") In 1879, Mary CORKILL married John LEWIS. John had also been born in Liverpool (in 1859) to John and Isabella (HUGHES) LEWIS. I believe they married in Liverpool in 1841, but I don't know anything before that.
