My family live on Vancouver Island, B.C., Canada. My full name is Kenneth James Quayle, with a brother, Michael Charles Quayle. My middle name is from my father - James Edwin Quayle, and my brother's middle name is from our grandfather - Charles ? Quayle. I can't remember where the name Edwin came from, but I think it was maybe my father's grandfather's name. My grandfather, Charles Quayle, lived near Victoria, B.C. and had three children - James (my father) the eldest, Sylvia (deceased), and David. There are more recent generations (cousins, nieces and nephews to me) since then, as far as I know all living around Victoria, B.C., or elsewhere on Vancouver Island. I would like to find out if anyone knows anything about where my family came from before that. I have been told we originate from the Isle of Man, and one side or another of my family (not sure if it's the Quayle side or not) told a story about an ancestor being sent to the "new world" (rather than prison in Australia) for stealing sheep. Similarly, I have heard that a part of my family (could be Quayle) moved up to Eastern Canada as loyalists to the British Crown from the U.S., presumably some time around the American revolution. I haven't tried to search municiple records in Victoria for birth, death, marriage and such records - if anybody has any hints as to how to make this search practicable (and preferably cost-free), I'd appreciate ideas or help.
