One of his daughters, Albertina Rosaline Caroline was listed as being born in 1856 in Ruebenhagen which is in Regenwalde, Pommern. It is possible that all the family was from there. It appears the family had immigrated by Nov of 1860 as the next child, Herman was listed as being born in Jefferson Cty. WI. at that date.
