I am looking for info. on Sampaon Raborn! Do you have any additional info. on him? I will cut and paste the only thing I have on him. It mentions the name Whitlow as you did! Thank you, Judy SOURCE: History of Bienville Parish Louisiana, Vol II (received from Pat Galloway 8/16/2003) - RABORN SALT LICK - In 1828, John Martin Fouts and wife Martha Ware Nelson Fouts settled on land near Friendship, which included the area of the Raborn Salt Lick. Maria Theresa Fouts, their daughter, married Criswell Whitlow and became owner of much of the large tract of land when Whitlow died just before the Civil War. The Widow Whitlow later married Sampson Raborn. They had two children, Maria Theresa, the writer's mother, and Alphonso Judson Raborn......... Although Maria's father had made some salt here, Sam Raborn developed the salt works. There was even a post office named Raborn at one time..... War operations ..... Mr. Sampson Raborn, who married the widow Whitlow, a daughter of Mr. Fouts, was placed in charge and collected the rent. It was in this way the lick became know as Raborn's (Rayburns, Raburn, Rayborn are examples of the many ways the name is found spelled.) Notify Administrator about this message?
