I am very happy to announce that there is now a DNA Project looking at RABURN (and all R165 names). The Raeburn / Rayburn / Rayborn - R165 DNA Project only began last Saturday. It is connected with Family Tree DNA and the first draft of the web site is available at http://home.mchsi.com/~r165. The web site may be changing over the next few weeks as we try to convey what is most helpful to most people. If you wish to jump right in and JOIN the project, you can at http://www.ftdna.com/surname_join.asp?code=R86627&special=true We recommend at least the 25 marker test, but there are other tests available. There is a lot of information on our web pages and on the FTDNA Site (http://www.ftdna.com) about DNA and what it can do (and can’t do) in Genealogy. The test that we are using is based on a study of the Y Component of DNA and therefore can only be done by studying the DNA of a Male with any of the variations of the Raeburn name. This would include everyone with a soundex code of R165 and many in R150 (Rebun, Rebon, Rabun, etc.) The intent of the project is to try to tie all of the current name variations together and see how many original immigrant Rayburns we can identify. Although the project is barely a week old, we have three participants at this time. Two tests have been analyzed and returned. They were actually done before the formation of the project. As more tests are completed, we will sort them into identifiable ancestral lines and possibly break through some brick walls. If you have any specific questions or suggestions, please feel free to contact me. Notify Administrator about this message?
