Hi, I'm researching the "Rickerby" family name. But, in response to an email, today I received the following response. You may be interested. -->

"We really appreciate the info you supplied. As far as the Rackerby family in the US goes, a John Rackerby arrived in Virginia from Whitehaven sometime prior to 1773. Allegedly born in Carlisle.

One child William married Elizabeth Craddock and they had 5 or 6 children about 1802. All known Rackerbys in the US probably derive from these children."

If you contact me I can tell you all about the town of Rickerby, England from whence the name Rickerby comes. I can also put you in contact with the author of that email. I suspect that Rackerby may be a derivative. Especially since Rickerby is a small village near Carlisle.
