I believe the William Rainey on the 1820 census in Greenville County is my GGGGgrandfather. He's on the 1830 Greenville census as WIlliam RAINY.

The consensus of researchers following this family is that William was born in VA about 1774 and married a Margaret UNKNOWN in SC. Their children are:John Rainey, b. 1807 (my line; he married Mary MEADOWS), Obediah m. Nancy ROBERTS, Martin m. Mary ROBERTS, Peter m. Bashtine (sp?)UNKNOWN, unknown daughter, Mary/Polly, unknown female born 1820-1825, Moses, Samuel Hiram m. Annie BROWN and William m1.Elizabeth BATSON & m2.Martha MEADOWS.

The RAINEY, MEADOWS, BROWN and ROBERTS families are all listed in the membership rolls for the Mountian Creek Baptist Church 1794-1850. Also listed is HAWKINS.

If anyone is researching these families , please contact me. I have more to share and any links are appreciated since this line is very difficult to trace.
