Robert Cleveland, the father of Sarah Jane Cleveland (who married Jesse Rector in the Yadkin area of NC)? Mind you my source was ancestry.com, so it’s not infallible or completely reliable, but I have him born on 8 Jan 1774 in Orange Co VA and passing on 26 Apr 1812 in Wilkes Co NC. He was married to Aley Mathis of Wilkes Co, who was born on 11 Dec 1750 and died 18 Dec 1791. Robert’s parents were John Cleveland (b. 31 Jul 1714 in Gloucester VA, d. Nov 1778 in Orange VA) and Ellizabeth Coffey (b. 1714 in VA, d. 1770 in Orange VA). John’s parents were allegedly Alexander Cleveland (b. 1659, d. 1770 in Blue Run, VA) and Mildred Presley (b. 1675, d. 1770 Blue Run, VA). It’s possible that Alexander was the original immigrant, but I don’t know for sure. I have at least 5-6 more ancestors in Alexander’s line on my ancestry.com family tree (Collins Family Tree, available for public viewing) but didn’t write them all down on my working tree here at the house because there is no hard evidence to substantiate the ancestrage. However, it is a good place to start so that I’ll have some names to use to investigate public records later. Hope this helps and please feel free to e-mail me with any other questions.
