Illinois Rectors in the War of 1812

I am writing a history of Illinois in the War of 1812, and am seeking information on four Rector brothers (William, Elias, Nelson, and Stephen) who had various prominent military roles in the territorial militia during that conflict. They were said to have been among nine brothers and four sisters who were born in Fauquier County, Virginia. The first three (not sure about Stephen) were surveyors and came to Illinois Territory to survey the public lands. Towards the close of the war they migrated to St. Louis and possibly after that to Arkansas. Although my interest is historical rather than genealogical, I am seeking genealogical-type information (dates, places, etc.) or leads to finding such information. I would be especially interested to learn how or whether these four brothers were related to a surveyor named John Rector, killed by Indians in 1805 in what is now Saline County, Illinois. Any assistance will be acknowledged with gratitude.
