This is the first time I have heard that he was in the War of 1812.
Can you please tell me how you know that to be so ?

On the 1850 census he was @43 &
on the 1860 census he was @63,
so that would indicate that he was in the military by the time he was 15 years old.

This military website seems to say there were actually 3 REDMAN's in that company
... Do you know who the other one was ?
http://sciway3.net/proctor/state/1812/1812r.html
Redman, John        Private, Alston's 3rd Regiment SC Militia
Redmon, John        Private, Alston's 3rd Regiment SC Militia
Redmon, William        Private, Alston's 3rd Regiment SC Militia

I know John L.'s father was another John born sometime before 1765
& I don't know about any military record for him either.
The father was sick when he wrote his Will in 1813 which was probated in 1814 ...
so I don't know if would have been healthy enough to be an Army Private in 1812
... but then maybe his sickness was a result of the War ?

Thanks for sharing info,

NICOLE
