Redmond Family Genealogy Forum

Hi Folks,
Wade and I are well acquainted. A few points of interest on the Redmonds - for the fellow from Herkimer, I hope you had more information which enabled Wade to help you. There is an early Redmond family in Utica too you might want to look at too. In addition most of the Delaware County Redmonds are descended from Matthias Redmond and his wife Sally Smith. Per the appearance of his children in later census records, he is understood to have been born in Ireland. He is believed to have been a brother of Patrick Redmond - both of them name their first born daughters Elizabeth. He is in Norwich CT by 1799, where his oldest son John (also the name of Patrick's oldest son) is born. Before his arrival in Delaware County prior to 1805 and prior to 1799 if she is the mother of his son John, Matthias marries the widow Sally Smith Abell of Norwich and has at least the following children - John, Betsy, William, David, Peter, Garret (Gerard), George, and Demas(possibly Dennis).
The Redmonds did indeed live in proximity to the Kelly/O'Kelly family who seem ot have arrived a little bit later from neighboring Co. Carlow so perhaps Patrick's wife, Bridget was indeed a Kelly though i had not heard that before. The death record of their daughter Elizabeth Robinson provides no parental information but I note that Nicholas was still iiving in Roxbury in 1880 so perhaps a death record exists for him.
I am descended from Eliza Abell Todd, Sally Smith Abell Redmond's daughter by her first marriage. Hope this is of interest.
