Thank you so much for your thoughtful reply. I have just found a large number of documents (mostly letters) for this family, dating from the 1850's on. There are so many names that I just don't have a clue where they fit in. I am hoping to find some mention of where they are from but first I have to be able to read what is written. Most of the letters were written by Edward Kane. It was his sister, Katherine Kane, that married into the Redmond family. I am searching the records online for St. Patrick's in Lowell but many of the people I am researching are earlier than the online information. I think I need to find someone to help me safely preserve what I have and then I can begin to try to figure out what is written and if I can gain any clues from these letters.
