Judy,

Oh wow! Another Rhodes/Copple connection. I know I’ve seen Sanford’s name but he isn’t in my database as a direct ancestor. He may be, probably is, a cousin of my Daniel however.

In looking over my notes (I have three huge bulging manilla folders of Rhodes information) I found a marriage record for an Eliza Ann Smith, who m. John L. Rhoades 21 June 1865. Is she the same Elizabeth Smith who later married Sanford? It would make sense, since it seems these families, Rhodes and Copples, seemed to intermarry and pass wives and husbands around nearly everywhere I look.

One researcher I’m aware of has tried to unravel some of this family. Have you heard of Alvin L. Anderson? He wrote a book titled, “Rhoades and Allied Families - Descendants of David and Celia (Copple) Rhoades.” I think that may be where I've seen Sanford's name. I also suspect your Susannah (Copple) Smith could be a sister of Celia (Copple) Rhoades who is my ggg grandmother.

I’ll keep looking for your Sanford. When I find something about him I’ll post it here.

Good luck in your research.
Paul
