I am sorry to overwhelm your mailbox with messages, but I have just spent the last two hours or so looking for the link between my Marie Rhode and your Rhode families. I have found the following information:

John Rhode (b. 8/2/1840, d. 4/20/1922)
Henrietta Dobbertin (b. 10/22/1846, d. 4/20/1922)
* Henrietta had six children who all lived to adulthood
* John, Henrietta, Fred, and maybe William came to the USA in 1869

CHILDREN:
Fred Rhode was born in Germany (August, 1866)Fred was living with his parents in 1900 on Benton Street.

William Rhode was born ??? (one source says Germany, but they came over before he was born) (January 1870. William was also living on Benton Street in 1900.

Mary C. Rhode/Wiengand was born in 1871 and married a John Wiengand. This family is related to Mary "Pink" who is a relative of another part of my family unrelated to this part.

Albert Rhode was born April, 1876 and married Barbara (b. January, 1874) and had one child, Willie (b. 1899) in 1900

Minnie Rhode was born in April of 1882 and was living on Benton Street with her parents and brother in 1900.

THAT MAKES FIVE OF THE SIX CHILDREN...

So, does that mean that my Marie Rhode, whom I misreported as being born in Germany (was born in NY) was the sixth child? She fits into the ages of the children above. She was born in around 1871 according to records I have of her somewhere.

I had heard a family story that one of my grandparents grandparents came over from Germany with one child and pregnant with another...this would be supported by this family group. I can't find my William Bartels/Marie Rhode family in the 1900 census and in 1920, Marie had already passed away. Marie had several children, the last of which was given to a family member because she died shortly after. I don't know if the baby was given to a Rhode or a Bartels. Did any of your Rhodes "adopt" a child in the late 1910s?

So, what do you think?

Thanks for your time!

Sincerely,
Lori Gallagher
