Harty Rhodes Mystery - RI
Posted by: Diane Carpenter (ID *****4524) Date: September 03, 2009 at 09:02:46

Hi. In researching my husband's Carpenter ancestors, I came across the following marriage: Daniel Carpenter, b. circa 1803, RI, married Mary Grady, also b. about 1803. They were from South Kingston, RI. I believe they are the parents of a Jeffrey Carpenter, my husband's g-g-grandfather. They are definitely the parents of Phebe A. Carpenter and James Carpenter, and they are listed in several census reports. In the 1860 RI census, there is also listed a "Harty Rhodes, age 79". I believe this is Mary's mother. Mary's maiden name was Mary Grady, and her mother is listed as Harty Grady. Harty Grady also married her daughter's father-in-law, Stephen Carpenter after Mr. Grady's death. Does anyone have any information at all on this "Harty Rhodes"? She must have married again to a Rhodes after Stephen Carpenter's death and again been widowed. Any help in solving this mystery would be appreciated!! Diane
