Jesse Rhodes b. 1796 Edgefield County, is not the son of William Rhodes III and Emelia Evans.
Jesse Rhodes is the son of John Swadden Saunders b. 1776 VA. This is based on my Y-DNA Test by Ancestry.com!!
Two possible mothers:
1st Mary "Polley" (Pace) Rhodes. She gave Jesse 85 acres of land which he sold in 1821 to Martin Hitt. He is Mary's half brother.
2nd Arthur Rhodes' (--?--)wife. This is based on the 1800 thru 1820 Censuses of Edgefield Co., SC. Jesse was raised by Arthur Rhodes' wife on Mary Rhodes' farm.
Jesse was Mary's son raised by Arthur Rhodes' wife. Jesse's only daughter, Mary A. Rhodes, was named for Mary "Polly" Rhodes. She also could have been named for Arthur's wife.
