REBECCA JANE RHODES

Rebecca Jane Rhodes married Dominique Jasper Trott on 3 Feb 1881 in Butler Co AL. Little is known about her. She & Dominque were married 22 years, but I do not know if they had any children.

Rebecca Jane Rhodes Trott died in 20 Dec 1903 in Mobile Co AL, and is buried in Magnolia Cemetery, Mobile AL in a plot by herself.

I found the following information on her and would appreciate any help in identifying her parents/siblings and if she had children:

The Mobile Register, Mobile AL,
Wednesday, 25 Dec 25, 1903, page 5, column 2:

The interment was made in Magnolia cemetery. A delegation of the Daughters of America* attended. The pall bearers were: W. L. McGuire, W. C. Schrell, F. T. Perkins, F. S. Winter, G. T. Hamilton, Ralph Smith.

*Daughters of America was founded in 1891.

Rebecca Jane Trott
Wife of Dominique J. Trott
July 21, 1854 - Dec. 20, 1903

Note: Rebecca Jane Rhodes Trott is the sole burial in a large plot at Magnolia Cemetery owned by the Junior Order of United American Mechanics (JOUAM). Her grave is marked. Why Rebecca was buried in this JOUAM plot, and why her grave is the sole burial, is unknown. Her husband, Dominique Jasper Trott, is not buried with her.

The United American Mechanics (UAM) was a fraternal organization founded in 1845 in Philadelphia under the name "Union of Workers". It began as a nativist working men's organization to fight against labor pressure from increasing immigration populations, specifically the Irish, Germans, and Roman Catholics. In 1853 a junior branch of the organization was founded. The Junior Order of United American Mechanics (JOUAM) was formed in 1885 -- its members were white males, between the ages of 16 and 50, of good moral character, believers in the existence of a Supreme Being, in favor of separation of church and state, and supporters of free education through the public school system. The word "Junior" has no reference ot the age of its members after 1885, and the word "Mechanic" has no relevance to the members' occupations. JOUAM defined its objectives as promoting the interests of Americans by shielding them from the economically depressing effects of foreign competition, establishing a Sick and Funeral Fund, and working to maintain the public school system.
