Liz,
I have traced my Rhodes / Roads etc from Hertfordshire (1918) back into Bedfordshire (1550's), suggest yours are similiar. Look at the Claydon villages and also Claydon House and its attached Church.
I do know of a Rhodes researcher at Chesham who may be able to help, will see if I can find his address.
