A cordwainer being a shoemaker, that would fit with the following. The 1880 US Census lists a William G. Rowe, age 25, working in a shoe factory, and living in Marblehead, with his wife Nellie, age 21, and 1-year-old daughter Lennie. There were two others living with them, a man named William McGraw, age 28, and a boy named Lestia Matthews, age 14, both from New Brunswick, Canada. The Census report says that William and Nellie (and their parents) were all born in Massachusetts.

Ten years previously, William must have been a boarder with Augustine Roads. He then married Nellie, got his own home, and took in boarders, too.
