I am a Robb descendant doing research on our family.
Please consider joining me in the new Robb DNA Project. I have begun a new Robb/Raub/Raab etc. DNA Surname Project, and have just sent a DNA kit to one of my male Robb cousins who, like me, is descended from Peter Raab/Raub b. 1742, probably in Pennsylvania, and died 1827 in Springfield, Ohio. He was one of the many Pennsylvania Raabs/Raubs that lived in York County. I am also descended from a southern line--William Robbs/Rabbs b. ~1756 probably in North Carolina. He died in 1831 in Greenville Co., SC.
This project is an opportunity to add some degree of certainty to our research and should help sort out many of the Robb/Raub/Rapp/Rabb/Raab/Robbs families. It will eventually allow us to tell which lines we are related to--and, as I have been finding out with other families--help rule out which lines we are NOT descended from. Several of my other lines have been experiencing success in finding their connections, and genetic genealogy is allowing us to make headway where records are confusing or just not there, and to confirm lines that we've supposed were true.
The test requires nothing more than gently scraping the inside of your cheek, and sending back the sample to the testing company. About six weeks later, you will get your results, and your results can then be matched with other cousins as we get more people tested. Since this is a surname project, it will only work for those of you who are male Robb/Raub/Raabs/Robbs, since the test looks at the y-chromosome that is passed from father to son. If your father, grandfather, etc. were not Robbs (or some variation of that spelling), then I encourage you to both find relatives that are male descendants and encourage them to get tested, and to look for a surname project for your own last name. It's a win-win situation! The tests are not free, but participating in the Surname Project is. If you have not checked out what�s happening with DNA and genealogy, it is really fascinating, and I encourage you to do so.
