Hi Aylene
I have an Amelia Dorothea Elizabeth Rodé in my tree and there is some discussion of her having spent some time in the US. Like the other Rodés, the first christian name was not usually used. Either the second or third was used. She was born on 19 Nov 1840 in Moreton Bay, Queensland, Australia, the daughter of Franz Joseph Auguste Rodé (who was born on 18 July 1811 in Prussia, Province of Schlesien, Parish of Siegert) and Julia Emilia Peters (who was born on 8 April 1808 in Neustaat, Aberswalde, Prussia). They are my great great grandfather and mother. Queensland didn't become a State until 1859 and Moreton Bay at that time was a penal settlement. Auguste and Emilia were part of the missionary team that left Hamburg in 1838 and who set up a missionary settlement on Zion's Hill, Nundah - a suburb now of Brisbane. They were trained for missionary work at Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Berlin. The site of that historical church is marked out in coloured stones today in Bethlehemskirchplaz which is about 4 or 5 blocks from Checkpoint Charlie.
