My ggg-grandfather was Franz (Ernst) Rode, who was born in Nienberg, Germany. On 18 Aug 1857 he married a widow, Dorthea Margaretha Elizabeth (Gaedeke) Nordbrock, in Chicago. They had one son, Frank.
Ernst served in in the Civil War / War of Northern Agression as a Pvt, Co D, 43rd Illinois infantry. He died 29 Sep 1864 in Little Rock, AK. He was apparently quite tall for the time (6'3" from his war records); his future daughter-in-law, when she first saw him in church in his uniform as a child, thought he was a giant.
Any information on him, his family, or his ancestry would be appreciated.
