I am still searching for information on my ggg-grandparents Robert Rhodes
and Candis Queen Clark. According to census information Robert was born in
N.C. about 1812 and Candis was born in NC about 1814. Candis Clark married
Robert Rhodes in 1837 in Orange Co., NC. Candis and Robert had children:
Francis, William, Eliza, Teresa, Alexander, Unity, and John. Robert, Candis
and family lived in Orange Co., according to the 1840, 1850 & 1860 censuses.
In the 1860 census there is a Benton Rhodes age 35 and Agnes Rhodes age 16
in the house with Robert and Candis that wasn't there in 1850 and I can find
no other record of either of these after 1860 census. Robert died about
1863 in Orange Co. I cannot find Candis on the 1870 census but do find her
in 1880 in Nash Co., NC living with daughter Unity, son John, and 1
grandchild, Dover (Unity's daughter). I cannot find anything else on her.
I would like to find names of parents and siblings. Also, when and where
they died and are buried. I would think she is probably buried w/ husband,
Robert but do not know the location of his grave either. The name Candis
Queen Clark seems rather unusual to me and would think it would catch
someone's eye if they ran across it.
There is another Robert Roades who married Frances Copley in Orange Co. in
1810 who I suspect to be his parents but have no further info on him or any
documentation to prove this. I think most of these Orange Co. Rhodes came
from the Richard Rhodes line that came from Baltimore Co., Md. I have
recieved info that part of this line migrated into Pasquotank, Tyrrell, and
Bertie Counties on the way to Orange Co. but like everything else can not
come up with the links to put it all together. I know there was a Robert
Rhodes in Bertie Co. that left a will in 1808 in which he mentioned his son
also Robert. I find Robert Jr. in the 1810 Bertie Census with five children
under the age of 10. I thought once that Robert Jr. might be the Robert
Roades that married Frances Copley in Orange Co. but it seems highly
unlikely now. This is all the facts and theories I have on this line. If you
can offer anything that might help such as other researchers websites etc.
