Hi, Steven!
Both my grandparents were born in Turterebes, Gramp in 1892 and Gram in 1896. After coming to this country, they settled and lived their lives in Norfolk, NY, which is nearly into Canada. There were many people in the area who had come from Turterebes, including Nemos. If you think this might be a connection, I'll do what I can to help you! Have you tried the new Ellis Island site yet? The address is ellisislandrecords.org. I was able to fine my grandfather's passenger record and a photograph of the ship on which he had crossed! The site is self-explanatory and easy to use, but difficult to get to because of high traffic.
My grandfather's name was Janos Molnar. Gramma's maiden name was Magdolna Stucz.
John
