My great grandfather was a Roughton

My great grandfather was a Roughton. He was born about 1876 and for many years lived in Raunds, Northamptonshire, England, as the village cobbler. He was George Frederick Roughton. He read politics and philosophy voraciously. I still have some of his books.

One of his daughers, Eva, became my mother's mother. Eva married Charles Horner. Horner is another fairly rare name in England.

From where does the name Roughton originate?

Regards,

Paul Whitehead
