I found at the library yesterday Harry Peden's book on Revolutionary Patriots of Worcester & Somerset Counties, Maryland. It includes the following pp 257-58: RUARK, Daniel. Pvt., Worcester Militia, Wicomico Bn., Capt. Benjamin Dennis' Co., July 15, 1780 RUARK, Elget or Elgate 1756/1816 Pvt., Worcester Militis, Wicomico Bn., Capt. Charles Bennett's Co. July 15, 1780 RUARK, Ezekiel, " " above, Capt. Samuel Horsey's Co. RUARK, Hezekiah. " " , Capt. Charles Bennett's Co. RUARK, James, " " , Capt. William Handy's Co. also listed as James RUAK RUARK, John, " " , Capt. Benjamin Dennis' Co., took oath of allegiance in 1778. also listed as John RUOCK RUARK, Shadery (Shadrack?) as above Worcester 1778. also spelling ROOK I was intrigued by the mention of a Capt. Benjamin Dennis for John and Daniel. I am seeking information on a Dennis RUKE/ROOKS, spelled both ways in 1820/30 Morgan Co., GA census. Could he be the son of one of the above, named in honor of his father's captain? Dennis' tombstone, erected some time after his death in Butts Co., GA , shows he was born in the state of Maryland in 1779, died in Butts Co., GA 1851. The 1850 Georgia Mortality schedule shows a James ROOKS born 1779 MD, died 1850 in Butts Co., GA. Possibly the same man, James Dennis ROOKS? I have found a Balitha RUARK mentioned in 1805 and 1820 Warren Co., GA records. Dennis ROOKS married Eley STANFORD (another Maryland name) in 1804 in Warren Co., GA. Any clues you find for me in your data will be greatly appreciated, this is a major brick wall in my research. GeneRooks@prodigy.net
