Sailer is a very common name in the southern part of Germany and (I think) also in Austria. I come from the Baden-Wuerttemberg region and in the village my grandparents live in approx. 25% have the name of Sailer. I can trace ancestors back until 1600 in that region. There is some story that they originally came from Austria or northern Italy, but I could not find anything on that.
