Many of us descend from Jesse and Naomi Sampley. Jesse was son of John Sampley/Sample. Naomi was the daughter of William and Luraney/Luraneh Luker, sometimes listed as Lucre. William died in 1812 in Morgan Co. Georgia. Luranah died after 1840 probably in Meriwether Co. Georgia. I thought some of you might be interested in the obituary of Naomi Sampley. This was published in the Southern Christian Advocate July 2, 1847. I obtained a copy from South Carolina Archives.

Naomi Sampley, daughter of W. and L. Lucre and wife of Jesse Sampley, was born in Edgefield Dis, S. C. After earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with her house which is from heaven for forty-eight years, on the 19th May 1847, in DeKalb Co. Ala. welcomed death as a friendly messenger. During her illness, which continued but few days, she manifested an entire submission to the divine will. She frequently rejoiced with joy unspeakable, considering that her light affliction, which was but for a moment, worked for her a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory. She had adorned the Gospel by being an acceptable member of the M. E. Church forty-eight years: having found peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ at the age of twenty. She, as did Israel of old, while upon her death bed, sat up and prayed the divine blessing upon her children, and exhorted them to meet her in heaven.
