I am searching for information on my Ammons side of the family. I am a descendant of the Ammons family that was in the Wayne, Sampson and Edgecombe County Area of N.C. and Marlboro Co South Carolina in the mid 1700's to early 1800's. My 5th Grt Grandfather was Thomas Ammons and from research I have found that he was supposedly born near Torhunta(an Indian farming Community) around 1748 in N.C. His wife's name is believed to Bertha(Last Name Unknown). His Brother was Joshua Ammons who was married to Mary Francis Parker. He also had another brother named John and possibly one named Jessie. Their Father is believed to be John (Jacob) Ammons of the Edgecombe and Wayne Co N.C. Area. Most of Thomas's children were born in Marlboro Co S.C. My 4th Grt Grandfather was William Ammons and he is the one that migrated to South Georgia where I was reared. My family strongly believes that we have Native American Ancestors through the Ammons line. I know that the Ammons Surname is found in the Coharie Tribe in N.C. and I believe in the Lumbee Tribe also. I would like to ask if anyone has any information on the Ammons Family and information that would help me to tie this connection together, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank You.
