John Duncan Household, 1860 census, Regiment 5, Pickens
Posted by: Sue Lumb (ID *****3140) Date: August 07, 2004 at 15:28:49

The 1860 US Federal census lists:

John Duncan 55 bp. South Carolina
Mary M. Duncan 51 bp. South Carolina
Cintha Duncan 31 bp. South Carolina
Ira Duncan 18 bp. South Carolina
Alexander Duncan 15 bp. South Carolina
Sarah Duncan 10 bp. South Carolina

The line listing race is empty.
If this is the Sarah Duncan I believe her to be, she is listed on later censuses as M (mulatto?)
Can anyone familiar with this area tell me what the race of these individuals is believed to be, either from other available information or knowledge gleaned from familiarity
with Regiment 5 in Pickens. By the way, what does Regiment 5 mean?
