Hi Bryan,

It helps some. Not as good as 3,000-word biography complete with maiden names, dates, places, religion, occupation, education, military service and anecdotes about their courtship, <Chuckle - in my wildest dreams!!!> but a little. The story of Essie having Cherokee blood may have come from the fact her step-mom had some, then got distorted into Essie having some as the years went by and the distinction between mom and step-mom faded.

I forwarded your post to one of Charles' descendants. She descends from Earl Holcomb and Essie Pack, so her ancestor would have been your ancestor's step-sibling. She will (or has) write to you to compare notes.
