Searching for descendants of this line:
Peter P. SCHENCK, an old and esteemed farmer of Madison Township, was born in Somerset County, New Jersey, on the 3d of May, 1801. He is the son of Garret G. SCHENCK, who was born April 30, 1758, and died in 1839, and Jane VANKIRK, born September 8, 1769, and dying in 1836. They were born in Monmouth County, in that State (NJ). The father was in the Revolutionary War for four or five years. Peter P. SCHENCK's birth-place was about forty miles from New York City. It was sold when he was about six years of age, his parents then buying a farm in Monmouth County, within one mile of the lower bay of New York, and six miles from Sandy Hook, where they lived in 1816. That farm was then sold, and his father came to Ohio. Peter was then fifteen years of age. They arrived at Franklin, Warren County, on the 22d of June, 1815, the father buying a farm within two miles of that place.
Jane VanKirk who married Garrit/Garret Schenck/Schanck of Monmouth County, NJ is the daughter of James VanKirk and Jane House. Her brother is James VanKirk born 1780 who married Mary Jones in Nov. 1800 in Hunterdon County, NJ, (my line). I have a copy of Garret Schenck's petition to be named guardian over the minor sons of Jane (House) VanKirk after James VanKirk died in 1794 and history of probate records.
From New Jersey Intestates and Others Book B 1794-1801:
VANKIRK-pg 1; Jan. 1794. A petition signed by John VanKirk, Garrit Schank, and Daniel Peacock stated John VanKirk was the son and heir of James VanKirk, dec'd, late of Freehold, and Garrit Schanck and Daniel Peacock were husbands of two daus. of James VanKirk, dec'd. They requested a division of the real estate owned by the deceased.
VANKIRK-pg 17-23; April 1794. The real estate of James VanKirk, dec'd, was divided for his heirs.
Children ahd heirs receiving a share: Peter VanKirk; James VanKirk; Phebe VanKirk; Nelly (Ellenor) VanKirk; John VanKirk; Anne VanKirk, alias Anne Peacock; Jean VanKirk, alias Jean Schenck (Jane Schenck). Nelly VanKirk was also referred to as Ellenor VanKirk in the same document.
VanKirk-pg 11; Jan. 1794. Jane VanKirk (nee House) requested Stephen VanBrackle be appointed guardian of her two sons, 11 yr old James VanKirk and 9 yr old Peter VanKirk, children of James VanKirk, dec'd. My note James' age off by 2 years, he was born 1780 and d. 1833 in Knowlton, Warren Co., NJ b. Fairview Cem.
