A newspaper article was incorrect as it gave my great
grandfather as John Smith but it was John Schmit. I know
John Schmit had a nephew who was a priest in Luxembourg
and it was Schmit and he wrote letters. He was the
Rev. Heinrich Schmit and was at parishes
in Holztum, Ranton Clerf and also Schuttrange, Luxembourg.
Looking for more info.

was born in Gostingen Dutches Co., Luxemburg in 1849.
He came to America and landed in Wisconsin and from
there he came to Worthington, Iowa, in 1885. He was
married to Margaret (Wenner) Pommes (Mrs. Nicholas
Pommes as Nicholas had died). I know he had a nephew
who was a priest in Luxembourg and it was Schmit and
he wrote letters. He was the Rev. Heinrich Schmit
and was at parishes in Holztum, Ranton Clerf and also
Schuttrange, Luxembourg. Looking for additional info.

Most probably the origin of your family is in the
Grand Duchy of Luxembourg (Luxemburg). Luxembourg was
ruled by the "house" of Austria from 1740-1792.
Luxembourg became a sovereign state in 1867. Hi Brigitte,
I don´t know who your ancestors are, but I might have
one information that might help you to boost your
research again. It could be that your family has its
origin in the today´s Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and
not in Austria. You should know that the actual
Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg was ruled by the "house" of
Austria from 1740-1792.

tomb stone that belongs to Wagner- Fritz Family. On
the stone their is a Barbara Wagner Schmit 1870-1891.
She was married to a Andre Wagner 1833-1911 I hope that
