I am wondering if you might be able to help me. I am trying to find my grandmother's birth mother. My grandmother was born in either Decatur or Dekalb, IL on March 29th, 1921. Her birth name was Irma Schur (or Shure or Schure) and her mother's name was Mary Schur. She was put up for adoption and possibly moved to an orphanage in New York. Louise Wise of Louise Wise Services and its precursor the Free Synagogue Child Adoption Committee in New York. She was adopted by a Chicago area couple, Walter and Bea Schiff and brought up in the northern suburbs of Chicago.
I am having a difficult time tracking down information about her family though several generous people are helping me. When I saw your post, I thought you might be able to help me. I don't know the spelling of her last name which is why I listed all three possibilities.
Do you think you might be able to help me? BTW, my grandmother is a redhead with blue eyes. She is also short...always has been.
